Cousine is a small granitic island measuring 25 hectares and lying 6 km west of Praslin. It is a combination luxury resort and and since 1992 a nature reserve. Since 1995 over 2000 native trees have been planted.
There are very few islands anywhere in the world that have survived as intact as Cousine has done, with such a profusion of wildlife. A systematic rehabilitation programme to restore the islands includes the planting of thousands of native trees, the protection of the huge seabird colonies and the reintroduction of endemic birds such as magpie robin, fairy Terns and white-eye. Green and Hawksbill Turtles can also be found breeding on the island from September to March whilst lesser noddy terns breed from March to October.
